How to Get Your Home Ready to be Put on the Market

  • Clean it up. Look at your home with a critical eye. Is it messy? Does it need painting? Cleaning? How do the carpets look? Does the garage need emptying out? You may want to hire a cleaning service and have the carpets professionally cleaned.
  • Check your landscaping! What condition are your plants and lawn in? Have fresh flowers planted, particularly in the front yard and entry area. Keep the lawn mowed and the shrubs trimmed.
  • Think about the things that first attracted you to the house. Play them up, as these features will most likely have the same effect on buyers.
  • When showing the house, remember that fragrance and odors make as big of an impression as what the potential buyer will see. Make sure your home smells good, e.g. no smoking, food, or animal smells. Sometimes we get used to smells are not even aware of them. Air your house out - just to be on the safe side.
  • Make sure everything is in good working condition. If something is broken, get it repaired. If you need referral for any of the above listed services, I would be happy to provide you with the names and numbers of professionals to assist you with your specific needs.
